About a Bruise

I steal things you care about
because I want to be
one of them –
the raised hieroglyphs
of the hands, two
milk-crystal eyes.
Break the head off
of a white ceramic Joseph
only to reattach it later
with Gorilla Glue,
the yellow puffing and crooked
in his neck.
I am a baby-
pink-embossed case
enclosing an emergency
at a BP along the highway.
Nothing is beautiful enough
unless I rip it open.

'About a Bruise' is a poem I wrote in 2018. It was published in Little Rose Magazine, which you can view online
